Figures released in January 2005 by Hitwise reflected a 26% increase in online buying via e-commerce websites over the 2004 Christmas period.

Australia now Third Highest Online Spenders
A recent article released by Visa card, (Visa International, 27 April 2005), further highlights the boom in e-commerce sales within Australia. Visa announced that the Australian market is now the third biggest online shoppers in the world, and spent 38 per cent more buying products and services over the Internet than a year ago.
Australians spent A$617.1 million on e-commerce websites using Visa cards in March 2005, up from A$446.9 million in March 2004. This puts Australia in third place as the world's biggest online spenders by total sales volume, behind only the US and UK, and ahead of Canada and Japan. The average e-commerce transaction value in Australia was A$142.
