Using Search Engines to promote your business
It is worth your time to look at new marketing strategies for your business. Small business owners just like you are already reaping huge results from using the Internet to market their businesses. The “old fashion” ways of marketing have worked particularly well in the past. The amount of time they spend online is increasing by approximately one to two minutes every month. They visit an extra 1 or 2 sites every month and spend an extra 30 seconds at each site. (Figures from Nielsen Net rankings the world authority on Internet Statistics).
With over 6 million searches on Google within Australia every day, you have to get your business online and up the top of the search engines. That is now where the market is. Google is where they are going to look for products and services. If you aren't there, you are missing out on business. In fact, it is going to your competitor and that spells danger for any business.
Good quality websites that are highly ranked on Google are without a doubt the most cost effective way to market and promote your business these days. I have clients that have added $80,000 in sales to their business in 2004 and they are expecting an increase in business again this year. For an investment of a few thousand dollars that is a great return on investment.
The new marketer is looking for a high return on investment and decreased risk. They don't simply set up a website and hope. They plug their business into web developers who have systems in place to fast track their results.

With frequent changes to how Google indexes, (chooses to list the websites on its search engine), these smart business owners also stay near to up to date sources of information recognizing that now days, “information is power”. It gives them enormous advantages over their competitors.
Most of these proactive business owners have moved into “content management system” websites where by they can quickly and easily update their information on their site. This gives them the advantages of dramatically decreased costs as well and the ability for them to quickly act and take up opportunities as they arise.
One client I know recently secured a “good deal” on some stock. The details were up on their website, a special offer was put up and an email newsletter was out the door in less than 20 minutes. Within 30 minutes they had sales.
This type of control and flexibility is the new way of marketing. You simply could not do this with Yellow Pages or the local paper. It cost them less than one cent for every email and because they were all opt-in and personalised emails, the customers had formed a relationship and were happy to buy.
The businesses building good quality email lists and using personalised email systems, (personally addressed to me e.g. “Dear Lea”) are clearly the winners. They can out compete with any traditional marketing company because the costs are so much lower and the penetration into the market place much stronger.
These same businesses have strength and flexibility and use this to their advantage; while traditional business advertisers are still back wondering where they market is disappearing to.
The real cost of running advertising using “new marketing strategies” is so much lower. Once you have a good website system is will last you for years. I have one client who has grown from one small centre to 88 company owned centres over the last 5 years. In fact during that time they have publicly listed on the stock exchange and they are still using the same website they were when they started. It is up to date, functioning well and making them a lot of money.

d) Actively use your website. Don't' let it just sit their like a lame duck. It is a business tool. Use it like your use your other tools to make you more money. You should be getting a healthy return on your investment, I know many people who are.
e) Look at ways to significantly decrease your costs. Reduce some of your advertising costs. Halve your Yellow Pages advertisement size and direct them to a professional looking information rich website. You will see a dramatic increase in your results. Look at decreasing your printing costs and directing people to your website for information. You can put twice as much of information in and you can keep it up to date as stock or models change.
f) Work with a company that helps you to access good quality information to make your journey easy. Don't focus on the technology you don't need to. You can have easy to use systems that let you totally focus on your marketing – after all, that is what the guys making all the money are doing.
